P O C
Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 05:54PM POC [Proof of Concept] – Evidence that demonstrates that a business model or idea is feasible.
Here in IT, we have a ton of vendors trying to sell us their latest and greatest software package. Somehow, someway, they are able to persuade the power execs to sign an agreement to run a trial version of their software package; this is called a POC. They are all very passionate about their software and are convinced that what they have developed is the panacea to all of our pain-points. (Never the case.) However, our decision makers over here sign the agreement anyway. More than likely, it’s because all vendor sales reps are usually very attractive women. And most of our decision makers are of the male species who think with their dicks, of course.
Anyway, I just got back from a short trip in NY to perform a little damage control with the East Coast user pool. I was immediately given the task of running a POC for, yet again, a new software package that will manage all of our projects and processes. In order to really test this software against our current processes and business model, we kinda’ need to have an already established process and business model, which we don’t. No, I take that back. We do have a model that enforces no accountability, no traceability, no real time deliverables, and no end date. That said, why even run the POC when we really have nothing to compare it against?
I really don’t get how some of these power execs and decision makers get to the level they’re at. Maybe I’ll subconsciously grow an imaginary dick, harbor all of my logic in it, and see how that works out. Speaking of growing a dick, I wonder how Romie is doing? I should probably consult with him first. Just another fun-filled day!
By the way, get this! While I was out in NY, I bumped into Johnnie Vasquez on the corner of Broadway and Halsted at a hot-dog cart! Of all places. He was there for a 2-day technology conference. Anyway, we’re both back in town…confirmed drinks tomorrow after work…and requested that he pack an overnight bag so we can engage in wild ass monkey sex like we did last time...if he's got the banana, I can be the monkey!
Can’t wait to see what Thursday brings!!!!
